Attack Your Life - The First Crucial Step

This article is the first in a series of articles that I have chosen to entitle "Attack Your Life".  The series will detail the steps necessary to make positive and permanent changes in your life.  I write this not as an expert on Psychology or as a licensed counselor but one who is very experience in failure.  Failure is cyclical.  It breeds upon itself.  At some point the cycle must stop.  You must be the one to stop it.

Why have I chosen to entitle this "Attack Your Life"?  Because it is a battle.  You are at war.  You are at war with yourself.  You must exorcise your demons.  You must throw them overboard.  Taking baby steps is fine and dandy if it works for you and in fact this is a popular approach today.  However, this is the most important fight of your life.  I do not think you can afford to take it lightly.  You must put together a battle plan.

The very first step was one that I found most difficult.  You must stop feeling sorry for yourself.  I felt comfortable feeling sorry for myself.  I was at home.  I truly liked it.  Not only that I was very skilled in having other people feel sorry for me.

But let me tell you something.  They do not care.  Yeah, your family doesn't want to see you hurt.  They will sympathize with you, they will comfort you.  But even they after some time will stop caring.  Life is hard.  Life is difficult.  Yes, it is true that there is always someone who is worse off than you.  Go bitch to them.  See if they care.

The bottom line is that until you are done feeling sorry for yourself you cannot grow.  It is impossible.  Do not even read the rest of the articles in this series until you are finished of feeling sorry for yourself.  I think it is a necessary process but one day you have to wake up and decide, NO MORE!  On that day you start to become a new person.  On that day you begin to grow.

There is absolutely no value to feeling sorry for yourself.  It accomplishes nothing.  It is a waste of your time and there are those who will waste their life feeling sorry for themselves.

But not you.
