Holier Than Thou
holier than thou \hō-lē-ər-thən-thau\
adjective, :marked by an air of superior piety or morality
Imagine that look whose picture can be found next to the definition of "holier than thou". It is none other than Bill
O'Reilly the host of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor.
In my tribute to Tim Russert yesterday I said that one of the most
respectable characteristics of his brand of journalism was that he only
desired to present the news not become the news. I wanted to use the
sensationalist journalism of Bill O'Reilly as an example of the polar
opposite, but did not in an effort to keep the article positive and upbeat.
Today however is another day and just the sound of his voice in my head is driving me mad. I must be honest and admit that
I believe in many of his points of view. Even so, the way he presents his case and controls his guests completely turns me
off. It has been a long time since I have been able to stomach an entire episode.
I love Fox News. However, when O'Reilly is on I go straight to MSNBC. There are many more words and phrases that could feature
his face next to them. Here are a few; pompous ass, conceited, overbearing, egotistical, and vain.
He calls his show the "No-Spin Zone". Are you kidding me? Bill O'Reilly has his own agenda. The second one of his guests begin
to make a valid point he stops them. He is the master of double-talk and rationalizations. If you do not agree with his position
you are a "pinhead".
He is famous for his very public scraps with celebrities. What better way to be featured on Inside Edition than spar with a
celebrity?
His stories are sensationalist just for the sake of being sensationalist.
There is no doubt that he loves the sound of his own voice. I would not be
surprised if he carries a mirror in his back pocket.
They say to love others you must first love yourself. I
guess he is just having too much fun loving himself to go on to loving
others.
