Take It Easy!  Stress Relief Tactic #1

Deep breathing is a stress reliever that has many benefits for the body. Breathing incorrectly can be linked to increased anxiety, high blood pressure, nervousness, depression, and psychosomatic disorders.

One of the benefits is oxygenating the blood, which revitalizes brain function, relaxes muscles and quiets the mind. Breathing exercises are nice because you can do them anywhere, and they work quickly.

There is definitely a right way and a wrong way to breathe.  Usually people contract their stomach and raise their shoulders and chest as oxygen enters the lungs.  Wrong this is the cause of shallow breathing.  Deep breathing requires using the diaphragm.

You can tell if you are deep breathing by  placing your palms against your lower stomach.  Exhale and then take a long deep breath.  If your stomach begins to expand and push against your palms then you are using the proper technique.  If you find your chest is expanding but your stomach remains flat then you need to keep trying until you can feel the air fill your stomach.

Begin by exhaling deeply and then inhale through your nose.  Hold your breath for 3 seconds.  Finally exhale through your mouth for five seconds.  Now repeat.

If you are going to do something 20,000 times a day you might want to learn how to do it right.

Before going in your bosses office to tell him where he can put the report he requested on his desk in two hours try some deep breathing.

Website of the Week: -- zuzu.net From the website; "At the age of 5, Karolyn played the role of Zuzu Bailey in the holiday film "It's a Wonderful Life." Her childhood film career spanned 16 movies, but she is best remembered for playing the daughter of George and Mary Bailey (James Stewart and Donna Reed). C & P's comment: Karolyn Grimes life has been a series of ups and downs. Yet she embraces the good parts of her past while not focusing on the negative.
