Be A Dragon Rider Not a Dragon
Over the weekend I watched the movie, "Eragon", with my kids. A very entertaining fantasy flick that any parent would feel
comfortable watching with their kids.
It is set in a distant time when dragons lived and flew and those who rode the dragons, the dragon riders, were as legendary as
the dragons themselves.
The dragon riders shared a bond with the dragons that they rode. The dragon rider could see through the dragons eyes and the dragons
could read the thoughts of the dragon riders.
I saw an immediate connection to the relationship that a man and wife share, especially a relationship that has been around for some time.
Their connection was so close that if the dragon rider were to die so would the dragon, however, if the dragon were to die the rider would
live on.
I know you are thinking that there is no connection to a relationship between a man and a woman. However, in my personal
experience this is not really far from the truth. I have suffered two breakups in my life from long term relationships. I can
honestly say that I have not come across too many people who handle a relationship breakup
worse than me. In my mind my life was over,
destroyed and beyond repair. There was always severe and prolonged depression in these instances.
In each case though, I found the opposite was true. Life does go on. In fact it goes on and on and on. For both parties.
The only thing the self-defeatist attitude does is prolong the agony and stop you from moving forward and making positive changes. The
only thing you can do is try to not make the same mistakes. If you are the type of person who chooses a new mate just like your last
one you have not learned a damn thing.
It is true that some people end their own lives even though they are still living and breathing. You need to take the power away
from your ex and give it to yourself. There are certain phrases you might want to remember and repeat while you are taking on this
challenge. "Get over it.", "Who cares?", "Next", and "Oh well" are some of my favorites.
