Is Hillary Clinton Really That Qualified? One of Bill Clinton's first decisions when he came into office was to place his wife Hillary in charge of an effort to create a universal health care plan for the United States. All I could think of when I heard this was...what? It made absolutely no sense to me then or now that the spouse of a President should be placed in charge of what would be a monumental change in our health care program. Now I am not so small minded that I think that the spouse of the President should only pick out the pattern for their dinner plates but I do believe that they need to take a back seat on major fundamental issues. I do in fact breathe a sigh of relief that Hillary Clinton did not influence any fashion trends like certain other First Lady's. That brings me to the topic of this article. I keep hearing that Hillary Clinton is the only person running on the Democratic ticket that is qualified to be President. Once again I can only think.....what? Fact - Hillary Clinton has less time in an elected position that Barack Obama. This fact is indisputable. Yet I keep hearing that Hillary is more qualified. The only possible explanation for this is that she is more qualified because she was once First Lady. Being the spouse of a President does not make anyone qualified to be President. To think so is absurd. Let me make an analogy that might make this idea hit home more dramatically. Let us say that you are in need of open heart surgery, however your preferred surgeon is in Las Vegas at a convention slash golf outing. He did conveniently leave his wife at home and she just happens to be available to perform your surgery. Are you going to let her? Sure Ms. Clinton may have traveled with her husband to many foreign lands on many diplomatic trips but what does that mean exactly. If she was instrumental in any peace talks or negotiations then she should not have been. It was not her place. I have a hunch that much of her impact on Bill's Presidency is now conveniently overstated for her benefit. She obviously was not in the oval office at all times. I think if you are going to vote for Hillary you should vote for her based upon her performance in the Senate and not based upon her performance as First Lady. ---------------- ----------------------------------------------- |
