I am sure everyone is well aware of Senator McCain's most recent tactical
maneuver. He announced the suspension of his campaign and asked that
the debate scheduled for Friday be called off. The obvious implication is that he is above politics and has the
country's best interest in mind at all times. Republicans applaud him
and Democrats are more than a little skeptical. We are less than 40 days away from electing our next President. The same President who will inherit this financial mess we are facing. It is true that we are currently in a crisis. It is true that this needs to be taken care of immediately. I have thirsted for a discussion on the issues in this election. Senator McCain has continuously avoided the issues. If it comes down to issues then he loses. Debates are a perfect forum to discuss policies. I need this and I believe the rest of America at least wants this. The two candidates are in Washington as they should be at the moment. They can get to Mississippi, the site of the debate fairly quickly. The nice thing about living in the 21st century is that we have some pretty quick planes. It is true that the topic for the debate is supposed to be foreign policy which is definitely on the backburner right now. If it needs to be changed to economic policy then so be it. I for one am anxious for John McCain to continue to defend a war that he was willing to fight in perpetuity, until Iraq suggested we need to be thinking about getting out of there, when it is bankrupting us. I would love for him to explain how we can afford hundreds of billions of dollars in bailouts and continue to maintain a trillion dollar war. I would love for him to say it is necessary for our security when it has weakened our security within our borders. I would love for him to justify making our hand weaker in dealing with the truly scary threat of a nuclear Iraq since the Iraqis know that we are hesitant to venture into another trillion dollar war. But if he wants to talk economic policy then so be it. That should be fun. John McCain has continuously shot himself in the foot for the last ten days. I think the only option he had to stop his downward spiraling support was to suspend his campaign. Perhaps he should have invested in a muzzle, so that it would not be possible to shoot himself in the foot. ---------------- ----------------------------------------------- ARCHIVES: 06/08-Current I 12/06-06/07 I 07/07-05/08 I Test Pages ----------------------------------------------------------------------- PUBLISHED 09/23/08 History Of Mr. Spock's Vulcan Hand Gesture If you are familiar with popular culture at all you are familiar with Star Trek.
