Live Like You Were Dying

If you are a fan of country music you are undoubtedly familiar with the song "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim McGraw. A poignant song that has much more than a grain of truth to the message.

On a week filled with news of the tragedy at Virginia Tech and pictures of crying family members and a community torn by one lone gunmen I can't help but think back to 9-11 when the entire nation was shocked, mortified and grieving.
For quite some time after that the mood in the country was much different. People were nicer to each other. There were more important things than the guy who just cut you off on the highway. Waiting in line at the grocery store was not such a big deal. If your child got a C+ on his report card, well at least it was not a D.

Everyone has problems. That is undeniable. For some people the difficulty lies in trying to figure out which problems are really important. I guarantee you most of your problems just do not amount to anything.

Personally sometimes I have to stop myself from worrying. I ask myself is this problem really worth getting all worked up about. 99 percent of the time it is not worth it. Then I ask myself if there is anything I can do about it at that moment. If there is nothing I can do about it right then I do my best to forget about it until there comes a time when I can do something about it.

This is honestly easier said then done. I love to worry. I'm very, very good at it. But I have found that my quality of life is much improved since I started prioritizing my problems. Whatever you are worrying about will not matter in 10 years. Heck, it probably won't amount to anything in a week.

I know it is not a new concept but really imagine what you would do if you knew that in 30 days you were going to die. I guarantee you that you would not be worrying about 99% of the crap you are worrying about right now. Your entire attitude would change. Change your attitude, change your life.
