Seriously? A Book For Kids With Augmented Mothers

My Beautiful Mommy is a book written by plastic surgeon Michael Salzhauer. Due to the popularity of plastic surgery in the United States apparently he and a publisher felt there would be a market for a children's book that would help kids deal with their parents cosmetic procedures.

How interesting a concept when we hear so much about children with eating disorders and self confidence issues. Are we really supposed to be telling our kids that how they look is not important or should we be telling them that if they do not like how they look they can pay someone a lot of money to look better?

I am not going to totally blast this book or this concept because anyone can write about anything they want. I just can not help but think that this is sending a message to our children and not a particularly good one.

Plastic surgery is so pervasive that it will never go away. Future generations will certainly increase this trend. The title of the book I think is horrible. All kids should think there Mommy's are beautiful regardless of their waistline or how perfect their nose is.

What are some of the next titles that we can expect from this publisher? Perhaps My Daddy's Beer Belly would help explain away an alcohol habit. I like the idea of My Innocent Daddy a book that would help children understand that one is innocent until proven guilty of embezzlement or tax invasion. Perhaps Mommy's New Friend At Work could help explain why she no longer shows up to dinner with her family.

I may sound a little cynical but I really do not care.  Parents who feel the need to explain away their vanity should not expect their kids to listen when they tell them not to stick their fingers down their throat.
