Hey Pat Robertson - Shut Up

Despite his many failed predictions in the past Pat Robertson continues to make the public aware of the results of his conversations with God. As a self-proclaimed prophet he is an utter and complete failure.
Pat Robertson's God is an angry and punishing god. Many people were in an uproar when he claimed that Hurricane Katrina was a result of God's punishment for the sins of the United States. Yet he remains popular with many across the country.

For the year 2008 he predicts worldwide violence and a recession in the United States. Is a prediction of world wide violence really that much of a stretch? When was the last year that peace reigned around the world? With the problems in the mortgage industry and a plummeting housing market as well as increasing oil prices is it not reasonable to think that an economic downturn is imminent whether or not it is an official recession? He also predicts a market crash before 2010. He has allowed himself a pretty good window for this to happen. Spikes both up and down are inherent to the stock market.

For the year 2007 he had predicted a terrorist strike involving a nuclear weapon in the United States. When asked why this had not come to pass he simply said, "All I can think is that somehow the people of God prayed and God in his mercy spared us." That is an easy out. Surely he also accepts responsibility for setting those prayers in motion.

Thankfully his past bid for the Presidency fizzled. Can you imagine the morale of the United States with a leader who speaks not of hope and possibilities but only of failure and doom?

Why is it that there are those who follow him and look to him for guidance? Some people love the "fire and brimstone". I believe that some people feel so guilty about how they live their life that they deserve to be punished. He preaches to the many of us who choose to think negatively.

Instead of disaster I choose blessings. Instead of doom I choose good fortune. Instead of tragedy I choose miracles. Instead of hurricanes and tsunami's I choose sunny days and sandy beaches.

Does this thought process stop bad things from happening? Absolutely not? But I have also chosen hope over depression.

Tomorrow while I sit down to drink my orange juice my only wish is that Pat Robertson is being served a big tall glass of "shut the hell up."
