Potatoes and Scaredy Cat First there was Laurel & Hardy, then there was Siskel & Ebert, Beavis and Butthead, Obama and ???????? and now we have Potatoes and Scaredy Cat.Yes despite our last attempt at coming to the aid of a defenseless orphan we are trying it yet again. Maybe little duckies just are not our thing. A little over a week ago we heard the tortured cries of a kitten from underneath our porch. After much prodding we were able to grab the kitten and we promptly brought her some milk and a hot dog. Eventually she warmed up to us and felt safe enough to visit us on the back porch. On my next stop at the dollar store I picked up some kitten food. Perhaps after our dead duck incident we had learned from our mistakes and become the proud parents of an animal. The funny thing was that a couple days after this we realized there was not just one kitty but two. The second one had stayed hidden until her sister tested the water. Perhaps they had heard about the duck. This kitten still does not completely trust us. We must sneak up on her and grab her if we want to hold her. At this time she feels comfortable with about ten feet between us and her. Any closer and we would be violating her personal area. I am confident that over time she will come around. This kitten we chose to name Scaredy Cat. Very fitting don't you think? So now you are wondering how we came up with the name of Potatoes for the other cat. If you could see my 16 month old carrying her around you would understand. She walks around with her one hand around the kittens neck just like a sack of potatoes. The funny thing is that the kitten does not seem to mind much. If anything will lead to this particular kitten's early demise it will be our daughter and not some fish. I will keep you updated on their condition. I am sure my wife and I can handle these two and foster their growth into decent, productive adult cats. Ducks may not have nine lives but right now I am hoping that cats really do. ---------------- ----------------------------------------------- |
