My Final Word On Prejudice When I became High School aged I began giving considerable thought to the issue of prejudice. I did not find myself very prejudicial against any particular group. However, growing up in a town of 12,000 people and only one black family I felt that there was some environmentally imposed issues that I would have to accept.I realized that any time I saw a black person my first reaction or thought whether I wanted it to be or not was to realize that this person was black. Just that mere recognition to me demonstrated some sort of prejudice, albeit involuntary. Over time as I went into the working world in jobs that dealt with the public I have become somewhat desensitized to color in people I meet. I wish this would go away entirely but I do not believe it ever will due largely in part to the stubbornness of the human brain. Another valid reason is that separation will continue to exist. While private white social clubs have virtually all been shamed into integrating by the public, and rightfully so, I still have the BET channel on my television. I still see news about the Miss Black America contest. This line drawn was not by me or any "Caucasian" movement it was drawn by people of African-American descent. I am sure to hear the argument that "we" have the KKK. Well, the KKK is a small organization whose membership includes the outer fringes of society. The KKK is protested in many towns and largely by the white population. The next argument is that they should be afforded this right (yes I realize it is a right) because of the fact that they are a minority. The percentage of whites in the population has been decreasing steadily by approximately five percent every ten years. Eventually there will be no real majority. Any proposed White Entertainment Television would be doomed to failure because no company in their right mind would run on it. Jaws drop and mouths are agape if ever the words "you people" are uttered by a white person when being interviewed. This is appalling you say. But why are you so shocked when the signature clothing line of the black population is FUBU an acronym for "For Us By Us"? Are you kidding me? Do not separate yourselves from the population and then cry out in outrage when the rest of us recognize that distinction. You make that distinction. It appears to me that Reverend Wright has single handedly self destructed the race of a true black contender for the President of the United States. I have had the opportunity to vote in a few elections in my thirty eight years. Never, that is until this year had I ever considered voting for a democratic candidate. I was giving serious consideration to making Barack Obama my candidate. The black leader Reverend Wright may have made that an impossibility. Why would a black leader wish to harm the campaign of a black politician. The primary reason likely is out of retribution for not supporting his insane theories. Another reason is that Barack Obama wished and desperately tried to speak to all Americans and not just one segment of the population. I truly believe that one day our ruling bodies will be as diverse as the true makeup of our population. When this happens I wonder there will be no one to blame and no one to point the finger at. My words here may infuriate some. But I assure you these are real and genuine feelings and concerns. I also feel that they are rational and reasonable. I know there are many good people out there that could care less if you are black, white, brown, purple or like that guy I saw on Oprah, blue. Many of these same people feel the same way that I do. Please understand me, I do not want a White Entertainment Television. I do not want a Miss White America. I do however want FABA. For All By All. ---------------- ----------------------------------------------- |
