Way To Go Prince Harry

Brits and also Americans like the Royals and love the scandals that they get into. We follow them on their best days and we hear far too much about their worst days.

As far as yesterday goes it was a banner day for the Royal Family. Prince Harry was flown home after 10 weeks of service in Afghanistan. The British press which should also be applauded had managed to keep his time there secret thereby enabling Prince Harry and his fellow soldiers some level of safety in an unsafe environment. His cover was blown unfortunately by the online "news" source the Drudge Report.

He had to fight to be able to serve in Afghanistan. The powers to be did not want him anywhere near the place, emphasizing that his presence there would jeopardize the safety of his fellow soldiers. Yet he persisted and won. For 10 weeks he was just another soldier.

He commented, "I think this is about as normal as I'm ever going to get." Free from the constant media scrutiny he was able to just be. Many of us have wondered what it would like to be them. I wonder how many times they have wondered what it would like to be us.

How refreshing is it to see a person of privilege fighting as equals in a war? In our own country persons of privilege and with connections have taken advantage of the system to escape any real danger in past wars.

To me what Prince Harry did suggests a great deal of character. Perhaps more than many of us possess.

It could have something to do with his father's very royal bloodline. Of course his mother, a royal as well, only of smaller stature is just as likely to have something to do with it. The former nursery school teacher who would become one of the most famous people in the world certainly possessed some great genetics. Even after her marriage ended to Prince Charles she would become known as a great humanitarian. The world claimed her because she walked amongst us and cared.

Prince Harry spent 10 weeks walking amongst us in an effort to do what was right. He fought to do what was right.

The world should be proud of him and I am damned sure that wherever she may be, Princess Diana is proud of him.
