Success Breeds Success

I would like to make an argument that a successful person has much more to offer to those around them than money or connections. Although those things can certainly increase the chances of success for those who have access to them there is something else somewhat less tangible but far more valuable.

The successful person is an example to those around him/her that anything really is possible. Nothing can be accomplished unless you believe that it is possible.
Often you find that the children of a successful person will tackle some project, goal, career, business that is completely different than their parent's specialty. In these cases the parent can offer little in the way of contacts or knowledge to help their child attain their goals. Yet the child still succeeds I think largely because they knew someone who had.

If a man starts his own business and is successful sometimes you can find his wife starting her own business and making it work. That "heck if he can do it so can I" mentality is healthy and desireable.

I can guarantee you if you search hard enough you can find someone who has had it as bad as you have it right now and turned their life around.

The importance of believing that you can do something is even more obvious when you look at people who have comeback. A typical pattern for the entrepreneur is to make a million, lose a million, make a million etc. etc. If someone has turned an idea into a million dollars and then lost it due to poor decisions or a lack of foresight do you really think they are going to sit around and think "damn" that was my only chance I might as well give up. Heck no they are going to get back on their feet and start with their next million dollar idea. They did it once they can do it again.
