In 1981 Bela defected from Romania which accounts for his funny accent. In 2008 he is covering gymnastics for NBC alongside Bob Costas. Bela Karolyi would seem to be the ideal choice to provide commentary on Olympic gymnastics. Except for one thing. He is very difficult to understand. The ability to understand Mr. Karolyi is further complicated by the fact that when he gets excited he talks faster. By the time I have figured out what he said in the beginning there is a complete volume that I have missed. I was wore out by the time he was done giving his commentary. It was literally work trying to decipher his golden nuggets of input. You may perceive from the tone of this article from the beginning that
I am going to suggest that NBC could have picked a better analyst for
women's gymnastics. That is certainly not the case. It is fun and sometimes inspiring to watch someone doing for a living
what they truly enjoy. Not many of us have that opportunity. ---------------- ----------------------------------------------- ARCHIVES: 06/08-Current I 12/06-06/07 I 07/07-05/08 I Test Pages -----------------------------------------------------------------------
