The World Is Round

To say that the world is round is an obvious statement.  But it was not always that way.  Most everyone knows that at one time everyone thought that the world was flat.  Sounds crazy now but that was what they were taught.

I believe that we learn things primarily in two ways.  We learn by being taught either through books or through teachers.  And the other way we learn is through experience.  What we learn can have positive influences on us or they could have negative influences.

For example lets look at the racists in our society.  They could have learned to be that way from their parents which is often the case or perhaps they had a bad experience.  i.e. a woman who is raped by a person of Hispanic origin.

At times you must absolutely look at what you have learned.  To say that people of color are ignorant, criminals, and to be hated simply because that is what daddy taught you is foolish.  I hate to tell you but daddy doesn't know everything.  To say that all people of color are bad because you were held up at gunpoint by a black man is equally foolish.  It does not make sense.

I bring up racism because it is something that overtime I have come to be amazed by.  I just do not get it.  It does not make any sense.  It is skin color.  Who cares?  I mean really who cares?  If you do not have the ability to judge each individual person on their own merits then I truly feel sorry for you.  It is as sure a sign of ignorance as any I can think of.

Please allow me to get off of my soap box and tell you why this information is important to you.

If you have been told repeatedly by your parents that you will never amount to anything don't believe them.  If you have been told by your spouse that you are a born loser, don't believe them.  I know it is difficult not to start believing what people keep saying over and over.

Perhaps you could be a victim of yourself.  Perhaps you are the one that keeps telling yourself it's not worth trying to change or improve because you never finish anything you set out to do.  In this case do not believe yourself.  Shut up!  Stop doing bad things, start doing good things.

Placing blind trust in anything or anyone, excepting the good Lord or Oprah could be foolish.  Always consider the source and remember there is very little that is more satisfying than proving someone wrong.
